Sub Genre

Normally a film doesn't just belong to one genre, there are hybrid genres which is when two genres are put together to categorise a film such as a Romantic Comedy. Another form of genre is a sub genre which is a genre within a genre like a crime thriller.

All of these film posters are all crime thrillers and just from the posters we can all see that they are very similar. They all seem to have a person running at or away from the camera and all the posters have a blue tint to them which makes them seem more serious and moody when for all you know they could be quite daft and jolly.

Thriller Sub Genres

Conspiracy Thriller
the protagonist goes up against a large corporation whose danger only he or she sees.

Crime Thriller
Focuses on crime, and normally follows the point of view of the criminal. Very action based and might follow the point of view of the police as well


Disaster Thriller 
a Natural disaster is taking place and the antagonist is either trying to stop the disaster or try to save themselves before time runs out


Legal Thriller
Takes place place in and around a courtroom. The main character is normally a lawyer whose case has either put them or their client in danger




Medical Thriller
Based around something medical becoming deadly and is leaked to the public, the protagonist is normally a doctor

Political Thriller
 The whole government is in danger and the main character is hired to stop the fall of the government



Psychological thriller
The main character has involved himself in a dangerous situation which threatens their sanity.


Religious Thriller
Uses the history and myths of religion. Normally a religious artefact or historical secret is discovered.


Spy Thriller
This sub genre focuses on the on the adventures of field agents.



The opening sequence my group are creating i believe is a crime thriller, this is because the main story line follows a criminal and his son but also involves a lot of action.
